Greetings to all Paddlers of New Horizons for Camp Jorn YMCA
We continue to make progress on our friend / fund raising adventure and just wanted to share a bit of our current situation. We can remain optimistic regarding the big picture. Because of our commitment and the generosity of many, Camp Jorn continues to provide life changing experiences to hundreds of children and families. We can fully appreciate that in our first summer of operation as an independent camp, we provided a resident camp experience to 520 kids and day camp adventures to another 455 children. Had we been complacent, our future of service may have been in jeopardy.
On September 1, 2007, we started off with a payout to the Lake County Family YMCA of 3 million dollars and a bank loan of 1.2 million dollars. With the ongoing receipt of pledges and new gifts, our mortgage balance is now at 960,000. Admittedly, this is still substantial but it is coming along right on schedule. In round numbers, we still have $558,000 in outstanding pledges to be received over the next four years.
To close the gap completely, we would like to announce a new Challenge Gift that will help us pay off the loan completely. Sue and Rick Gering have recently committed to matching up to $250,000 in new gifts dollar for dollar. The end result will be $500,000 in new donations If we can take full advantage of this generous and inspiring challenge quickly, we can move on to the final phases of the campaign which included capital improvements to facilities and programs along with the start up of an endowment fund. To date we have received $27,135.
Let's keep moving. We find ourselves in challenging times and camp programs remain critical in providing personal growth opportunities to our children. Resident Camp, Day Camp, Child Care, After-School Care, Family Camp, Retreats and many more community programs benefit from our effort.
On behalf of the families, children, volunteers, and staff of the Camp Jorn YMCA, we applaud your generosity. We are eager to spread the story and build new relationships that will lead to greater community ownership of our mission.
The Paddling New Horizons Campaign will continue until the original goals are satisfied.
