Paddling New Horizons Capital Campaign

Paddling New Horizons Campaign is complete!

We did it!  In 2006, the PNH Campaign was initiated for the primary purpose of raising funds to allow the purchase of Camp Jorn from the Lake County Family YMCA.  The price was set at 3 million dollars.  The purchase agreement would move Camp Jorn to the status of an independent YMCA with development restrictions to ensure the property would always be used as a camp for kids and families.  The affiliation with the Lake County Family YMCA remains, and our commitment to the families of Lake County is unwavering.

In August of 2007, the purchase became official and the campaign continued to gain support.  With gifts from many we were able to pay a majority of the purchase price immediately and received a 1.2 million dollar loan for the balance.  We continued to work with donors over a 5 year pledge period and acepted new gifts to pay down the loan.  To wrap it up, Sue and Rick Gering made a $250,000 Challange Grant available and matched every new dollar.  The Gering Challenge was met by the end date of Dec. 31, 2010.  We will continue to follow up with donors who have open pledges for 2011 and by the end of the year - we will be debt free.

The original campaign also included a 1 million dollar goal for Capital improvements and was met with many facility additions and improvements including:

*Completely renovated & restored Nash Lodge

*KYBO bathhouse upgrades

*Longhouse improvements

*Remodeling of Sioux & Iroquois

*New landscaped stairs to the Swimming and Sailing areas

*The addition of a Yurt Village for campers ages 13 & 14

*New asphalt driveway and turnaround for 2011

*New Swim Docks

What's next?  We are hopeful donors who have stepped up to secure Camp Jorn forever will stay with us.  Now that we are debt-free - we can swiftly move to adding program and facility elements as laid out in the Master Plan.  By year-end 2011, you can expect the details on our next 5 year vision, including:

*Climbing Tower

*Director's Residence

*Day Camp Facility

*Health Lodge

*Camper Cabins

*Maintenance Facility
